How we use text messages

Last updated 2 September 2026

This page describes exactly what our text messages do, who receives them, and how anyone can stop them. It is written for the people who receive our customers' messages as much as for our customers.

Who receives a message

A person receives a text from a SmallOutfit customer only after that person has called the customer's business. The call is the request to be contacted, and the reply comes from the number they dialled.

We do not send marketing messages. We do not buy, rent, or share phone number lists. A number entered by a business owner for their own plan reminders is used only for that purpose.

What the messages say

Missed-call replies acknowledge the call and ask how the business can help. A typical message reads: "Hi, this is Dave at Dave's Plumbing. Sorry we missed you. What can we help with? Reply here and we'll get right back to you."

Plan reminders tell a member that a visit included in their plan is due, or that a card on file needs updating.

Message frequency depends on how often someone contacts the business. Most people receive one message and a reply thread. Message and data rates may apply.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any message and that number will receive nothing further, immediately and permanently, with no further action required. Reply HELP for contact details.

Opt-outs apply across every business using SmallOutfit, not just the one that messaged you. A number that has opted out cannot be messaged again through us by anyone.

You can also write to hello@smalloutfit.com and we will remove the number by hand.

Consent our customers agree to

Every business using SmallOutfit agrees that they will only enable replies to people who contacted them, that they will not use our messages for marketing, and that they will honor opt-outs. Accounts that break this are closed.
